Privacy Policy
Scanner — Scan PDF & Document · Last updated: July 14, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Scanner app ("we", "the
app") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We designed Scanner
to be local-first: your documents live on your device unless you choose to
back them up.
1. Information we collect
- Documents and scans. Pages you scan or import are stored
locally on your device. If you enable cloud backup, encrypted copies of your
document images and their metadata (titles, dates, folder names) are stored
in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage) under your account.
- Account information. The app creates an anonymous account
automatically so backups can work. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we
receive the identifier, name and e-mail address those providers share.
- Purchase information. Subscriptions are processed by
Apple's App Store / Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. We receive
subscription status (active/expired), never your payment card details.
- Usage and diagnostics. We collect anonymized usage events
(e.g. "scan completed", "document exported") via Firebase Analytics and crash
reports via Firebase Crashlytics to improve stability and features.
2. What we do NOT collect
- Text recognition (OCR) runs entirely on your device; recognized text is
not sent to our servers unless cloud backup is enabled (it is stored with the
document it belongs to).
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
- We do not access your camera roll or camera except when you actively scan
or import.
3. How we use information
- To provide the app's features: scanning, backup, sync across devices.
- To operate subscriptions and restore purchases.
- To understand aggregate usage and fix crashes.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
4. Third-party services
Scanner relies on the following processors, each governed by its own privacy
policy:
- Google Firebase —
authentication, database, storage, analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration.
- RevenueCat — subscription management.
- Apple /
Google — sign-in and payment processing.
5. Data retention and deletion
- Local documents remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall
the app.
- Cloud backups remain until you delete the documents or delete your
account. Deleting your account from Settings → Account → Delete
account permanently removes your cloud data.
- You may also request deletion by e-mail (below).
6. Security
Data in transit is protected with TLS. Cloud data is stored in Google
Firebase with per-user access rules: only your authenticated account can read
your documents. You can additionally protect the app with Face ID / Touch ID
from Settings.
7. Children
Scanner is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under
13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Your rights
Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR in the EU, CCPA in California), you may
have rights to access, correct, export or erase your personal data. Contact us
and we will respond within 30 days.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be
announced in the app. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current
version.
